“Pivoting is not the end of the disruption process, but the beginning of the next leg of your journey.”
-Jay Samit, Book Author & Independent Vice Chairman of Deloitt
Due to the very dynamic environment that characterizes the entrepreneurial world, business model pivots play a very important role in how new ventures adapt, survive and ultimately thrive in the startup ecosystem. This is specially relevant in the case of entrepreneurs dealing with unexpected environmental changes that can impact the feasibility of the business model they originally envisioned, which is a topic that could still greatly profit from a deeper understanding by research. Taking this issue into consideration, “The pivot study” aims to investigate how entrepreneurs view pivoting, as well as the influence that different factors can have in this process.
We are an interdisciplinary research team at the Professorship for Entrepreneurial Behavior of the Technical University of Munich. Under the direction of Prof. Dr. Nicola Breugst and Prof. Dr. Dr. Holger Patzelt, we want to apply our scientific, economic and social-psychological expertise as well as our great enthusiasm for venture business models and entrepreneurship to gain valuable knowledge for research and practice.
