Our research approach integrates social science with a (neuro)cognitve perspective to unravel the basic psychophysiological processes underlying effective and ineffective leadership behavior. We aim to identify intra-individual antecedents of leadership, i.e., processes within the individuum which are causing behavior. Thereby, we focus on both intra-individual processes on the side of the leader (e.g., how will leaders behave based on their individual cognitive characteristics) as well as on the side of the follower (e.g., how is certain leadership behavior perceived and reciprocated explicitly and implicitly by followers based on their individual cognitive characteristics). We extend classic leadership research introducing new methodology, including cognitive, psychophysiological, and neuroscientific measures.
